Here you will find useful answers and clarifications to various topics and questions that you may have. Our goal is to help you understand complex or sometimes confusing concepts by providing clear and understandable explanations.
1. I want you to give me information about my coin/coins, how can this be done?
If you want quick background information, the easiest way is to send us photos of your coin(s). You can do this directly via Viber on the phone we indicated in the contacts section or our email. After you write to us in one of the two places we will send you brief instructions on what the whole process is. If you are from Bulgaria you can always request one of our other services, such as a visit from our expert at a location convenient for you or make an appointment for a consultation in our office.
2. How do I photograph a coin and is there any other information that I should send with the pictures of my coin?
In order for us to be as accurate as possible, the photos you send us must be well focused, without blurs, shadows or glare, it is good to put a white sheet of paper as a background. In order to be able to give you basic information about your coin, it is necessary to photograph the coin from both sides (obverse and reverse), as well as its edge. In order for us to be as accurate as possible we will sometimes ask if you can send us the weight and size of your coin.
Here is an example of how your photos should look in order to receive correct information:
3. Why can the same coin be worth 5 eur or 500 eur ?
The quality of a coin determines its value. Of course, how rare it is also, but with modern numismatics in Bulgaria and around the world, and which was minted in large quantities, quality is the main factor. Here's an example to give you an idea: You have already seen the coin on the left in the sample photos from the previous point. Its value may vary but is around 5 EUR due to the quality it is in. On the right picture you can see the same coin in MS64 quality, its value also varies but is around 500 EUR at the time of this writing. You can clearly see the difference in the two coins, but don't think that one is simply cleaned and the other is not, if you think that with a cleaning, rubbing, soaking, etc., the left coin will improve its appearance and its price will increase, you are wrong, the patina that accumulates over the years is also valuable. The coin on the right is expensive because it has not been cleaned but has been preserved over time as you see it. Coin cleaning should only be done by a specialist and only in cases where it makes sense to do so.
DO NOT CLEAN YOUR COINS
4. Why should you not clean your coins?
As we said, the quality of a coin determines its value in modern numismatics. Your coin may not be the highest quality, but that doesn't mean it has no value. The example from the previous point is with a coin of 10 and 1000 BGN, but there are many more options between these two amounts. Your coin may have an average price of BGN 100, 200, 300, 400, etc. This is determined by an expert. When cleaning your coin, let's say that the coin is of average quality and the price is around BGN 400. You instantly turn it into a coin worth BGN 10, regardless of the fact that you "improved" it.
5. How is the quality of a coin determined and can we do it accurately?
We can give you an indication of what quality your coin is, if you want this to happen with a document and to be sure, your coin must go through a certification process through a company that deals with this like https://www.ngccoin.com/ or https://www.pcgs.com . We can help you with the whole process.
6. I have a coin that I want to sell, can you help me?
Yes, we can assist you.
7. I want to buy numismatics for a gift or investment, can you help me?
Yes, we can assist you.
8. Can you tell with absolute certainty whether a coin is real or not just from photographic material?
The answer here is both yes and no. Some coins have very obvious marks by which they are identified as fakes, copies or replicas. When this is the case, we can tell you that the given coin is not genuine. In a large percentage of cases, no one can tell for sure whether a coin is real or not until they see it in person.
9. How is the confidentiality of my numismatic items guaranteed?
We understand and value our customers' privacy. We adhere to a strict code of ethics which ensures that all items entrusted to us will be treated with the highest degree of discretion and confidentiality. Your trust status is of critical importance to us, and we are dedicated to maintaining the absolute confidentiality of every collection and numismatic item provided to us.
